Kansas VINE County-Jail Coverage
Kansas Victim Information and Notification Everyday, or VINE, covers offenders housed in Kansas county jails. The Kansas Attorney General is the state source for the service, and VINELink is the person-search portal. VINE does not include residents in Kansas Department of Corrections state prisons. That boundary is the most important fact in a statewide VINE search.
The Attorney General implementation map was updated March 10, 2026. Its legend distinguishes implemented counties from counties with no jail. That supports statewide county-jail deployment, but it does not prove that each county owns a separate physical jail or sends an identical feed. Some Kansas counties use host facilities elsewhere. The source agency shown on the live person record is better evidence than a broad assumption about the home county.

Exact post-release result wording was not captured in the research, so the live interface label should be read as shown rather than replaced with a claimed universal Released status.

If a home county has no distinct jail, the physical custodian may be a host in another county. The Kansas County Directory routes to county-specific booking, host-facility, and release-record details. A disappearance from one roster can also mean transfer, so the responsible sheriff's booking or release record remains the source for the book-out type and destination.
Kansas VINE Release Fields
VINELink is built for custody status and event notification, not for a full court or correctional history. The exact fields can vary with the participating agency and the live record. Confirm identity before treating any displayed event as belonging to the person sought. A scheduled date, if offered, is not the same as an actual release event. A transfer notice is not proof of release into the community.

VINE does not replace the court docket. A court order can explain bond, dismissal, judgment, probation, revocation, or commitment after a jail entry ends. Yet the order may authorize release without proving the actual operational book-out time or showing that all other holds cleared.
A county booking or release sheet fills a different gap. It may show the booking number, admission and release time, release authority, charges, bond entry, and destination or receiving agency when those fields are maintained and public. That destination is crucial when VINE reports a transfer. Ask the home-county custodian for the named person's existing record rather than asking it to create a statewide custody history.

Set a Kansas VINE Release Alert
Once the correct active county-jail record is open, choose the notification option and the offered delivery method. Kansas materials describe release, transfer, and escape as distinct custody events. A February 19, 2026 Attorney General announcement identifies phone, email, text, and in-app notification, plus continuous access and English or Spanish support. The methods visible on a specific registration screen control for that record.
- Verify the person and source agency before selecting Get Notified or its live equivalent.
- Choose one or more delivery methods currently offered by the service.
- For telephone registration, create the four-digit PIN described in the official brochure.
- Complete the confirmation steps without placing private contact details in a public record request.
- When a call arrives, enter the PIN followed by the pound sign to acknowledge it and stop repeat calls.
Email registration does not use the telephone PIN. Keep the registration details available because an event message may need confirmation. Treat the alert as a prompt to check the live source agency record. Updates may lag an actual jail operation, and a transfer alert should lead to the receiving custodian rather than be announced as release.
VINE is available around the clock, but continuous access does not mean each county feed changes at the same instant. A weekend book-out, transport, or correction may reach the public system after the jail acts. Keep the event text and source agency with the alert. If the person cannot be matched after notice arrives, ask the named jail whether the event was release, transport, escape, or another custody change.
Kansas VINE Phone Number Conflict
Kansas official sources disagree on one digit in the help number. The current Attorney General VINE landing page prints 1-866-574-7463. The official brochure and the February 2026 Attorney General announcement both print 1-866-574-8463. Use 1-866-574-8463 as the number consistently supported by the brochure and announcement, while noting that the landing page differs.
The brochure also lists TTY 1-866-847-1298. This discrepancy should not be silently corrected or hidden because a user may see both versions while moving between state materials. The safest practice is to open the current Kansas VINE source, compare the displayed contact information, and use the brochure/news-release number unless the agency publishes a correction.
Kansas Splits VINE and KDOC
Kansas uses separate notification layers. County-jail VINE expressly excludes KDOC state-prison residents. State-prison and KDOC-supervised notification uses the KDOC Victim Services form. That form, in turn, excludes a person solely in county jail, on ordinary probation, or in community corrections without KDOC supervision. Choosing the right form begins with the current custodian and supervision status.

This form should not be presented as a backup registration for a county-only jail case.
For a KDOC person, first confirm the correctional record. The KASPER disclaimer and search entry defines the repository's scope and working-day updates.
KASPER covers incarceration, post-incarceration supervision, and discharged KDOC cases, not every county-jail booking.
Read the KDOC status with care. Parole, conditional release, postrelease supervision, and compact supervision indicate release from prison with ongoing authority. Discharged marks a later state endpoint. An anticipated release date remains a computation, not proof that release occurred.
Kansas VINE Limits and Checks
A delayed feed, spelling difference, host-county placement, transfer, or different custody layer can all produce a result that does not match expectations. Start with the agency most likely to own the current event, but do not stop after one no-result. For a county-jail release, request the booking or release sheet from the responsible sheriff if the live record is gone. Useful fields include admission and release time, booking number, release authority or type, and destination or receiving agency when maintained and public.
Federal sentenced custody uses the Bureau of Prisons rather than VINE. The BOP Inmate Locator searches federal records from 1982 forward.
A BOP location of RELEASED means the person is no longer in BOP custody, but it does not rule out another custodian or supervision.
ICE's locator is another separate layer. It covers current ICE custody and, under official guidance, releases within the last 60 days. It is not a lasting Kansas release archive and does not search people under 18. The strongest ICE search uses a nine-digit A-number and country of birth. A no-result after that limited window may require the relevant ERO field office or ICE information line.
The result of any alert should be checked at the source. VINE answers a county-jail notification question. KASPER answers a KDOC status question. BOP and ICE address their own federal systems. None alone proves freedom from every agency or the end of supervision.
Each system confirms only the custody layer named in its own record.
Timing can also explain a mismatch. A jail may complete release work before a public feed refreshes, or VINE may report an event after the local roster changes. On the other hand, a court release order may exist while a separate hold keeps the person in custody. Record the alert time, the source agency, and the exact event, then ask that agency to confirm the book-out or receiving custodian.
